TINDERBOX is a HOLT Medallion Finalist!

I’m very honored that TINDERBOX was selected as a 2018 HOLT Finalist by the Virginia Romance Writers.  TINDERBOX is in outstanding company in all categories!

TINDERBOX (Flashpoint #1)

In the volatile tinderbox of the Horn of Africa, Morgan Adler has made the paleoanthropological find of a lifetime. The discovery brings her to the attention of a warlord eager to claim both Morgan and the fossils, forcing her to make a desperate dash to the nearby US military base to beg for protection.

Master Sergeant Pax Blanchard has orders to intercept Dr. Adler before she reaches the base, and in so doing saves her life. After a harrowing afternoon he safely delivers her to his commanders, only to find his responsibilities toward protecting the obstinate archaeologist have only just begun.

Morgan and Pax are forced to work together in the Djiboutian desert heat, but it is the fire that ignites between them that threatens to combust them both. For the Green Beret, involvement with the woman he must protect is a threat to his career, while for the archaeologist, the soldier is everything she never wanted but somehow can’t resist. When Morgan uncovers a mystery surrounding Djibouti’s most scarce and vital resource, the danger to her reaches the flashpoint. For Pax, protecting her is no longer a matter of following orders, and he’ll risk everything to bring her back alive.

And in Romance World News…

You might’ve heard about a romance author behaving badly who applied for a trademark on the word “Cocky” and is now going after romance authors who’ve used the word in their titles telling them they have to change their titles or face a lawsuit. If you want more information you can check out #cockygate and #ByeFaleena here or on Twitter.

Here is a post from the absolutely lovely Donna Grant who shares stories of how romance authors usually handle shared titles, including our own story.

You see, when I put FIRESTORM up for pre-order, I discovered she has a book with the same title. Now, given that we share the same last name, this could be cause for confusion (and in fact, Barnes & Noble put her name in my book’s URL, which is why I didn’t share the Nook link for several days). I emailed Donna about the mixup and apologized for inadvertently using the same title, and I told her I plan to give her book a shoutout. (OMG have you seen the cover? It’s amazing. Plus I love sexy PNR and did you see the heroine is an archaeologist?! This might be destiny. https://amzn.to/2HSAnjz)

Anyway, Donna was wonderful and totally understood and she offered to give my book a shoutout too. Because this is what authors do, we lift each other up.

Me and the legendary Zimmerman twins–it’s a friendship made in geek heaven. And it all started back when I worked for the NSA…
My best friend Basia dragged me to the beach for her idea of a vacation. All those annoying people, sand in embarrassing places–not exactly R & R for a girl who doesn’t like the sun, the ocean or bathing suits. I couldn’t wait to get back to work.
But things started looking up when I ran into Elvis and Xavier Zimmerman. We discovered we had a lot in common: gaming, anchovies, hacking. After that, the vacation was perfect–until I accidentally broke some poor guy’s fingers. Then Broken-Fingered Guy disappeared, and things got really dicey. With the Secret Service and a bunch of thugs suddenly after me, all I wanted was to solve the mystery and enjoy what was left of my vacation–preferably alive.
