Congrats to my friend Jayne Ann Krentz for hitting #6 on the New York Times with her new release, The Vanishing!!
I loved this book! ??
Set in the Pacific Northwest, The Vanishing is my favorite kind of paranormal romantic suspense, with great chemistry between Catalina and Slater, and masterful reveals as they race to find Olivia. A thoroughly engrossing read (or rather listen as I enjoyed the audiobook)!!

Decades ago in the small town of Fogg Lake, “The Incident” occurred: an explosion in the cave system that released unknown gases. The residents slept for two days. When they woke up they discovered that things had changed — they had changed. Some started having visions. Others heard ominous voices. And then the scientists from a mysterious government agency arrived…

Determined not to become research subjects in an experiment that no one would explain, the people of Fogg Lake blamed the “hallucinations” on some local mushrooms cooked in a stew that everyone had eaten at a celebration. The story worked. The researchers left town. But now it has become apparent that the weird effects of The Incident are showing up in the descendants of Fogg Lake…

Catalina Lark and Olivia LeClair grew up in Fogg Lake and have been best friends for years. They now own an investigation firm, a business that allows them to use what they call their “other sight” to help solve cases. Things are going well until the night Olivia disappears. Cat frantically begins the search for her friend. When Slate Arganbright, an agent from a shadowy organization known only as The Foundation, shows up, she has no choice but to accept his help.

The duo discovers that someone is hunting the two people who witnessed a murder that took place in the Fogg Lake caves fourteen years ago. The killer was never caught. The witnesses were Cat and Olivia. Someone intends to make both women vanish.

It has been a heartbreaking week as I’ve watched an organization I love implode, but my pain is nothing compared to the authors of color who’ve been told in no uncertain terms that calling out racism in books can get them banned from the organization. My pain is nothing compared to what Courtney must feel, after all the hours and emotional energy she has given to RWA. My heart breaks for past board members who had worked so hard to address racism within the organization. Now all that work is in ashes.

I’ve withdrawn my books from this year’s RITA contest and I won’t be judging. I will not attend the conference in San Francisco and have withdrawn from the award committee.

I remain on the Ethics Committee – not the secret committee that was seated in violation of policy and procedure, but the REAL Ethics Committee that knew nothing about the complaint against Courtney. While committee members are confidential, I do have the right to identify myself as one. I have decided to stay on the committee as I believe it’s the best way for me to get answers, or at least ensure my questions are heard.

A Film About Menstruation

Did you watch the Oscars on Sunday? I was happy with some awards and disappointed with others, but there was one film I was absolutely thrilled to see win an Oscar, the winner of Documentary Short:
Period. End of Sentence. ??????

If you’ve read my book, CATALYST, you know this documentary covers a topic close to my heart as the heroine in CATALYST is attempting to get sanitation products for girls in need in sub-Saharan Africa.

A charity I regularly donate to is Days for Girls International, which provides menstruation underwear to girls around the world so they can manage their period and go to school. So wonderful that this documentary is shining a light on this subject and that it won an Oscar!!!???????????
